Briefly, we show classic movies, 50 years old or older, to the audience. We have gone back to 1915 for BIRTH OF A NATION, come up to 1952 for SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, and shown a lot of movies in between. We try to show movies that are not available on the regular TV or cable channels. We also show historical footage relevant to the showing. Like when we showed SINGIN' IN THE RAIN we also showed clips from BROADWAY MELODY OF 1929, which had "Singin' in the Rain" and "Broadway Melody" show numbers as filmed back then, for historical perspective. Sometimes we show interviews with the actors or directors.
We always have free punch, coffee, and popcorn. What would a movie be without popcorn? And our showings are always free. Never a charge. Hearing aids are available, especially for the silent films.
It's a lovely way to spend a Sunday evening, seeing our old friends, Charlie Chaplin, Deanna Durbin, Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., and Buster Keaton. There is still something magic about sitting in a dark theatre with your friends watching these historical films, much better than sitting at home and watching a video. We meet every second Sunday of every month at 7:00 PM in the Assembly Room.
