This workshop is for anyone who has never painted before, for those who have not painted for a long time, and for experienced artists. Anyone who would like to share the companionship of creativity with others is welcome in our Art Workshop! We find that when several people participate in the art process, it stimulates creativity. “There’s something magical about people working side by side!” So, if you please,
BRING YOUR OWN
WE'LL SUPPLY
We supply pastels, (oil, chalk,
water-soluble), various kinds of paper, and instruction in the use of pastels.
We also have acquired a large supply of watercolor paints and`some acrylic
paints. We will help with composition, colors and some techniques in
various mediums. Sometimes we have a session where everyone
tries a new method of handling a new medium – or their old, familiar medium.
The idea is to have fun, maybe to create a masterpiece, certainly to
explore our creative side, and definitely to enjoy the companionship of others
in the pursuit of these ends. Participants also enjoy, and are inspired
by, the music that is played (tapes and CD’s) during the session. We show some of the products of this
workshop once or twice a year in an Atrium showcase at the Rec. Center.
There is no charge for attending this workshop; however we do accept small
monetary donations to help keep up the art supplies. The Art Workshop is ongoing, every Monday,
1:00-4:00 PM in the Lanai Room. The teacher/facilitator is Ruth W. Miller,
M.A., Artist, Teacher, and Cert. Art Therapist. Call 482-3471 for any
additional information, or just stop by and see for yourself! THE VILLAGE PAINTERS The Village Painters is a
club whose main purpose is to fill the needs of the Art lovers of Leisure
Village. They meet at 1 PM in the Multi-Purpose room the first Wednesday of the
month. The members are art lovers, artists, wannabe artists and those who are
interested in being better educated on the subject of Art. The monthly meetings are a
combination of elements. For example: there are demonstrations by artists from
Leisure Village or when available artists from the community. There are hands-on
workshops where the participants learn new approaches to a given medium. Videos
are shown about famous artists, special techniques or various schools of
painting. Every February, the members
join in making Valentines, which are donated, to a local children’s shelter
(Casa Pacifica). These “Artistic” Valentines are indeed a labor of love! And of
course, there is the occasional party where the artistic quality of the food
served and games played are demonstrated! Different Club members hang
original paintings in our Village Library each month. This gives members a chance to display
their works and at the same time adds a pleasant element to the relaxed comfort
of the Library. The big event for the
Village Painters is the Annual Art Show, which occurs in early November, or the
end of October. All members of the Village Painters are eligible to contribute
their paintings, which are the central part of the show. These paintings are in various media:
for example, oil, water-color, acrylics, pastels, colored pencils, pen and ink
and the newest of all, computer-generated art. Every year the viewers are
surprised by the exceptional quality of the artwork displayed.
The Village Painters also
invite related clubs like: Ceramics-Plus, Woodworkers, Camera Club, Doll-makers,
Mold-decorators, Lapidary, Origami and Chinese watercolor to participate.
An
ongoing activity under the sponsorship of the Village Painters is the Art
Workshop, which occurs every Monday at 1 PM in the Lanai Room. All Villagers,
not only Village Painters members, are invited to attend this workshop which is
