Contract Bridge is a very popular card game in Leisure Village, as the following schedule of bridge activity at the Leisure Village Recreation Center Garden Room shows:

| Hour | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday |

The
game of bridge is an excellent activity for stimulating and challenging the
mind, and for socialization. As the "Calendar" shows, duplicate
bridge is played frequently at the LV Recreation Center. The
director of the Monday night duplicate game (see above) reports that as many as
48 people (12 tables) may play on an evening. Normally regular
players arrange partners for themselves for each game, but game directors take
the responsibility for locating partners when necessary. Each player
pays $0.50 per session. All money collected is returned as small
cash prizes for winners, except a small portion needed for supplies.
Results of games are usually posted within 24 hours of play on a bulletin board
at the Recreation Center.
Refreshments are often brought by participants. In December, an annual tournament is held, hosting 24 or more tables, to which all participants bring a favorite appetizing dish.
Participants in Leisure Village games often note that, in contrast to the atmosphere at ACBL tournaments generally, LV competition is "low-key" and friendly. These are senior tournaments. We've all seen too much competition already. Players in our sessions are often in their late eighties and nineties, so friendliness and helpfulness are the rules.
A typical afternoon or evening session lasts about three hours. Generally, ACBL rules govern all play, but the games are not officially sanctioned for ACBL master point credit. LV Bridge players don't publish any session results or announcements in local papers.
No bridge games are held at the recreation center on weekends, but as you bridge players might imagine, Leisure Village bridgers often meet socially on weekends or evenings for more bridge.
Although
bridge is Leisure Village's most popular card game, other games, such as poker,
mah jhong, and rummy, are very popular also. These generally are scheduled by
individual groups of Villagers, not through the Recreation
Center.
