What is the Farmer's Club?
The Farmer's Club is an association
of residents of the Camarillo, California, Leisure Village who are very much
interested in growing their own vegetables and other plants, and who meet
regularly to discuss good gardening methods, seasonal planting, companion
plants, testing the soil, and organic growing methods.
When and where does the Club meet?
Business meetings of our
club are held the first Fridays of March, June, September, and December at 2 PM
in the Multi-purpose Room of the Leisure Village Recreation Center. Membership
is $5.00 annually.
All residents of Leisure Village are welcome
Please come to our
meetings, contribute your experiences and knowledge to our discussions, and we
feel sure you'll come away with even greater knowledge and confidence about
growing your own plants. We usually close these quarterly meetings with a raffle
- seasonal seedlings are the prizes, and refreshments follow.
The Club garden - where is it, how large, and what tools are
needed?
The Leisure Village Farmer's Club garden has a total of 103
patches, each 4 ft by 12 ft. It is sited between Leisure Village's swimming pool
and tennis courts. Gardening tools are provided and provision for water is
located throughout the garden area.
Each year fertilizer and soil amendments are provided for each 4 x 12 patch.
A yearly picnic is held for Farmer's Club members, and trips are planned to
local gardens.
