Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the beautiful rolling hills of the Conejo Valley, at approximately fifty miles from both Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, is Leisure Village, a security-gated active retiree (age 55 and up) community of 2136 separate single story, well designed, single family all-electric homes, each set into a professionally landscaped and maintained community thickly planted with mature trees, grass, and indigenous flowering plants. The LV Recreation Center offers residents a broad variety of social, recreational, hobby, supportive, and self-development activities.

Blessed with a nearly ideal year-round climate, LV residents enjoy activities not only within the Village but also in surrounding areas.  Just outside the main gate of the Village in the surrounding city of Camarillo is a small shopping plaza offering groceries, a drug store, postal facilities, varied small shops, banking and medical services.  A short drive over convenient streets, or a short ride on the CAT (Camarillo Area Transit), will reach any of several local shopping malls, including the picturesque Old Town area of Camarillo, the very large and fashionable national wholesale outlet mall, national retail and grocery chains and malls, theaters, and restaurants to please every taste and budget.  A twenty minute drive reaches the cities of Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Oxnard, and Ventura, as well as numerous public golf courses and uncrowded spectacular coastline and beaches, marinas, and national parks for hiking, picnicking, sunning, and sight-seeing.

For music and drama lovers, there is ready access to top level professional performances in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Ventura and, back home, Villagers can participate in many types of dance, acting, instrumental music, and singing groups, and attend dance and musical productions in the Village, some performed by Villagers, some by professional outside groups.

For the active Villager, there is golf on Leisure Village's free (to residents) 18-hole executive course; tennis or paddle tennis on four outside courts, two sized for each sport; swimming in the Olympic size pool; use of the hot tub; billiards on any of six tables; outdoor games in special areas set aside for bocce, shuffleboard, and horseshoes; strengthening and conditioning in the fully equipped weight and exercise room; several active dance and exercise programs, and participation in lapidary, woodworking, vegetable gardening, ceramics, needlework, bingo, card games, movies, or recreational reading in rooms or areas set aside just for those purposes.

Finally, there are several groups of a social or support nature, such as single active seniors, self-awareness, weight control, bereavement, veterans, solos, and others.

The Leisure Village Recreation Center bustles with activity from dawn until 10 PM.  At times academic classes, including 55 Alive, are offered in the Village, and there are numerous campuses nearby offering adult education. Speakers are often invited to the Village to talk about matters of importance, such as estate planning and key health topics.

During the year there are many special events when clubs and groups utilize the spacious outdoor LV picnic and barbecue area.  Villagers especially enjoy the festive Fourth of July picnic.  Other large gatherings use the Assembly Room with its stage, projection room and sophisticated sound and lighting system. And for the travel-minded, the Travel Committee arranges and conducts many trips and tours, both nearby and distant, throughout the year.

The vigilance of our Security force makes it possible for Leisure Village residents to safely take walks within the Village at any hour, day or night.   The gated community is patrolled 24 hours a day and emergency calls are answered promptly by our motorized, radio-dispatched Security Department.

The maintenance of Leisure Village is excellent.   All the homes and the landscaped common areas are well kept.  The gently curving streets are clean, quiet and serene.   Credit for providing this high quality of maintenance goes to our full-time professional maintenance manager and staff.  The Village work force consists of approximately 100 employees who serve in the Departments of Administration, Security, Maintenance and Recreation.

A five-person Board of Directors, elected by and consisting of residents of the Village, governs the community. There are ten standing committees, comprised entirely of resident volunteers appointed by the Board of Directors, whose role is to make, and to ensure the proper enactment of, policies to sustain and promote the betterment of life here in Leisure Village.   A very active volunteer spirit in the community provides residents the opportunity to use the energy, skills and knowledge they acquired "pre-retirement".
