                                DOWNLOAD A GREAT GRAPHICS VIEWER

INTRODUCTION
IrfanView is a free graphics viewer that is capable of viewing 51 graphic, sound and video file types.  It can be downloaded from: http://www.irfanview.com.
This lesson will go through the download and installation process and will give a brief introduction to the use of this most useful utility.

DOWNLOAD
It is OK to launch Internet Explorer and type the above address in the Address field and press Enter.  If you wish to practice Copy and Paste,  launch Internet Explorer and type “leisurevillage.org” (without the quotes) in the Address field and press Enter.  Click on Leisure Village Computer Club > scroll down to Bill’s Class > click on 08/13/01 to bring up this lesson.  Highlight the above address > click Edit > Copy (or press Ctrl+C).  Click on the Address field (It should turn blue.  If not, select the address) > click Edit > Paste (or press Ctrl+V) > press Enter.  (This should take you to the Irfanview site.)  Click Download > click Download the current version of IrfanView from ZDNet > click Download Now (3/4 page down) > Save this program to disk checked > OK > Save In: (to get to C:\Temp, click on down arrow to right of Save In field > click on C: > scroll down to the Temp folder > double click the Temp folder) (Be sure that Temp appears in the Save In: field).  (Note that the file name is iview385.exe) > press Save.

Double click the My Computer icon on the Desktop > click View > click Explorer Bar (if Folders is not checked, click Folders – otherwise, click a blank area to close the View dialog box) > in left window, scroll to C: and click the + to expand C: > scroll down to the Temp folder > click on the Temp folder > in the right window, double click the file named iview385.exe > uncheck both checkmarks under Create Shortcuts: > Next > Next > (place a checkmark in all squares that do not have an asterisks ) > Next > Next > Done

CHECK IT OUT
Double-click Bill’s Class folder  > double-click the Graphics folder > double click any graphic file (the file should be opened by IrfinView).  Now, click the right (Next file) blue arrow on the upper tool bar a few times.  Click the + to enlarge a graphic view.  Click the (i) to the left of the blue arrows (information).  Click the Slide Show icon (second from left) > click a graphic file in the right window > click Add > (repeat selecting and adding graphics to a total of 5 or more) > click Play > (press Esc to stop). Click File > Thumbnails (wait while all thumbnails are displayed on the right) > double click any thumbnail to observe full-size view.

CONCLUSION
This is the best graphics viewer that I’ve found.  You can install it at home as we have here in class.  It can easily be removed if you decide that you don’t like it.  To remove, (from the IrfinView screen) click Options > Properties > Extensions > Clear All > OK.  Then delete the IrfinView folder (and Desktop icon if you have one).
