PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS – LAYERS REVIEW 1

INTRODUCTION – “Layers” makes it possible to combine several pictures into one.  The top layers cover the layers below.  Here we will select objects in one picture and convert them into layers in another picture by the drag and drop method.

OPEN PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS AND LOAD A PICTURE - Open Photoshop Elements in the Edit mode.  Hold the Ctrl key and tap the letter O key (Open) > navigate to a pictures folder and click a picture > click Open (this becomes the Background).

OPEN ANOTHER PICTURE – Hold the Ctrl key and tap the letter O key (Open) > navigate to a pictures folder and click a picture that will contain objects which are to be converted into layers above the Background > click Open.

SELECT AN OBJECT – Use one of the selection tools (Magic Wand Tool, Quick Selection Tool, Selection Brush Tool) to select an object.

MOVE SELECTED OBJECT ONTO BACKGROUND – Select the Move Tool > hold the left mouse button and drag the selected object onto the Background (Layer 1).

SIZE AND POSITION THE OBJECT – Drag the side and corner frame handles to size, position and rotate the object into place on the Background.

REPEAT FOR OTHER OBJECTS – Repeat above steps to select, move and position other objects onto the background (Layer 2, etc.).

CONCLUSION – This is one way to create  layers (simply drag a selection from one picture onto another).  Here we have assumed that Layer 1 and Layer 2 etc. will cover whatever is below them on the Background and will not interact with one another.
